Celebrating Tooth Fairy Day Is So Nice; We Do It Twice!

Maintaining the health of baby teeth is essential for a young child’s oral development. Primary or baby teeth assist in digestion, speech development, facial development, and more. When a baby tooth becomes decayed or has to be removed prematurely, there could be difficulties in this development but also the permanent tooth underneath could potentially be trapped because of the shifting of the teeth into the empty space. That said, baby teeth are still temporary and will eventually give way to healthy adult teeth. Losing a tooth can be a big deal for children and can also be frightening or confusing. Dr. Sima Chegini and the team at Arsmiles Family & Cosmetic Dentistry want to make this a fun and educational experience for your child by educating parents at Fairlawn, Ohio, on National Tooth Fairy Day!

#FunFact: Tooth Fairy Day is so nice; we celebrate it twice – both on February 28th and August 22nd! This special day is celebrated twice to encourage continued positive oral care habits for children throughout the year!

The Tooth Fairy

Just like Santa Claus and other characters in folklore, the story of the Tooth Fairy varies from country to country and from culture to culture. In the United States, the Tooth Fairy is depicted as a small and friendly fairy who flies around on wings with a wand, collecting lost baby teeth and leaving behind some money for them. Likewise, in countries such as Spain and France, the tooth fairy is depicted as a tiny mouse collecting the teeth and leaving behind a small gift.

How To Celebrate

The schedule for a child losing their baby teeth can be unpredictable, but it generally happens between 6-12 years. During this time, make sure to have small bills available for when your child loses a tooth so that the Tooth Fairy can gift it as a fun but small gift. You could also create a small token for your child, such as a fun certificate left by the Tooth Fairy. The American Dental Association provides free and fun material you can download and print here.
