Getting your child to the dentist can be challenging. Some children can be scared of the dentist, while others just do not want to go because, let’s face it, going to the dentist does not seem like a fun proposition. When you visit Dr. Sima Chegini and the team at Arsmiles Family & Cosmetic Dentistry in Fairlawn, Ohio, Dr. Chegini and her team will do everything to make the experience as exciting and fun for your child as possible. But how do you get your child to the dentist in the first place without kicking and screaming? Here are some tips on pediatric dentistry Dr. Chegini recommends.
Kids love activities. Playing dress up. Coloring. Watching videos. These are all things that capture the attention of young children. If you have issues getting your child to the dentist, incorporate dentistry into everyday fun activities. Play dress up where you and your child pretend to be at the dentist. Look for coloring activities that highlight aspects of dentistry. Show them videos of what they can expect from their upcoming visit. All of these can help create a more enthusiastic response from your children next time they are told they have an upcoming dental appointment.
Another way you can get your child excited about the dentist is through the promise of a reward, regardless of behavior. Treating them to their favorite meal following their appointment or getting them a small reward, such as a toy, can help your child get excited about the dentist. Even if your child throws a tantrum at the dentist, give them positive reinforcement for being brave in the first place. Keeping a good attitude in potentially difficult situations is the example your child can learn from as they grow.
Our staff is trained in treating children with care and providing an experience that will foster positive reactions. To schedule an appointment at Arsmiles Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, please call (330) 835-1000 today.
